I Love To Bake
I’ve been watching a certain show often because the host does lots of good old-fashioned baking. I grew up in a household where we baked, and I can still remember the intoxicating smells and feeling of accomplishment from a pastry that came out just right.
The show I’ve been viewing is called The Barefoot Contessa, hosted by Ina Garten. I watch this program on direct tv and the picture is so clear I feel like reaching out and grabbing a piece of that cake!
Although not specifically about baking, The Barefoot Contessa has some of the simplest yet most sumptuous baking recipes I’ve seen. Ina Garten is so down to earth that you feel as if she’s speaking to you in her kitchen. Instead of acting aloof, she speaks straightforwardly and draws you into the program.
Some of the wonderful recipes I’ve collected from watching include a lemon yogurt cake, which is rich yet light, and a delicious to-die-for coconut cake. I’ve prepared both of these cakes and the techniques she showed as she baked made them easy to do.
Baking recipes I haven’t tried yet (but plan to!) are cranberry-orange scones and Irish soda bread. The scones will be perfect for breakfast. And although my sister says soda bread is difficult, I’m confident that mine will be a hit; it’s all in the technique.
